Free-For-All Friday

The world is a little less funky today. RIP Prince.  Let’s party like it’s 1999, just one more time.  (Oh, the hair!)

Bye, Andrew Jackson. Hello, Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman will grace the front of the US $20.

This Modern Love podcast moved me to tears: “My First Lesson in Motherhood” about a woman’s almost immediate challenges with a daughter adopted from China. Listen to it here.

I’ve been catching up on Maria Shriver’s Architects of Change series. Maria Shriver shares interesting conversations with some interesting people: Debbie Allen, Seth Rogen, and Russell Simmons to name a few.  And, her site is looking for contributors. I know a few of you have work that would be a perfect fit. Share your story here.

We’re always on the lookout for inspirational stories (approximately 800-1,000 words) and you are invited to share yours. Have you had a transformative life experience that has led to compelling life lessons or a powerful life mission?

This week, Reggie and I spent a beautiful spring day on our roof deck.  He ate the plants and I enjoyed the view of the Manhattan skyline.

Hope you’re enjoying fine spring days wherever you are.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. The loss of these icons pierces the gut. I am saddened by Prince’s loss. It’s as if a corner of my childhood and youth disappeared with his passing. If you’re interested, Jackie, I’ve featured a 1982 Rolling Stones interview with him on my site today.

I look forward to checking out Shriver’s series. It’s a new one for me.

    Have a good weekend.

    1. My youth was defined by Prince’s songs. I was surprised by how many I can still sing word for word.
I think you’ll like Maria Shriver’s site, Rudri. Your work might be a great fit.

    1. Eye-opening! You know this kind of thing goes on, based on anecdotal evidence, but when you look at the hard numbers, it’s a bit scary how far we still have to go.
Thanks for sharing the link, friend! 🙂

    1. We just renovated the roof deck last year. It went from a danger zone (boards rotting and nails sticking up) to a really nice place. We have a lovely view of the city too.

Reggie loves hanging out up there. 🙂

  2. Reggae looking as innocent as ever – who ate the plants? Not me!
And we are enjoying a long Indian Summer on our side of the world not looking towards the Autumn/fall for as long as we can.

  3. I’m still in shock over Prince. He was such a fixture in my adolescent memories, and always will be. I love the Modern Love podcasts, and the one about the Chinese adoption was riveting. I also enjoyed the one about the woman who gave up her son for adoption. They are all so good!
